We’re already a few weeks into the semester, and academic life is already keeping students on their toes. But amid all the deadlines and daily rush, college events offer a refreshing break to student life. And behind these moments of joy are the student senate — the ones quietly shaping the rhythm of campus life. From the sports field to hostel corridors to the cultural stage, they are working on a semester filled with plans to keep the energy on campus alive and meaningful. To get a closer look at what’s ahead, I spoke with three of them — the Chairpersons for Cultural Activities, Games, and Residence.

We’re trying to keep it meaningful, fun, and something everyone can connect with,” says Ghobigha, the Cultural Secretary, hinting at the exciting line-up of Fests and celebrations coming our way.

🎭 Cultural Activities: What is Coming next..

For Ghobigha, this semester is all about bringing back the energy and togetherness that cultural events offer. Two major events set to take place are Food Fest and Mount Holyoke Fest.

Food Fest is an event that serves up not just great flavors, but also a greater cause, where current students will join hands with the alumni to host food stalls across campus. What sets this event apart is its goal: all proceeds will go to charity.

“It’s a culinary celebration, but also a noble cause,” Ghobigha explains, highlighting how the festival merges enjoyment with community impact.

Next up is Mount Holyoke Fest, where each department will showcase its talents, all competing for the Trophy of the Year. “It’s a cultural show, but in the best spirit of friendly competition,” she adds.

Now the most exciting part is the Campus Days. While no new “days” are being introduced this year, the senate is planning more theme-based days and engaging activities to make college life feel fresh and inclusive. One such example is the revival of the “No Bag Day”, which hadn’t happened in the past three years.

🏅  Sports Plans: What’s on the Field..

Sanga Mithraa, the Chairperson for Games, has a clear focus this year: participation, discipline, and community. Two major events are already on the calendar for this academic year—the Interdepartmental Sports Competitions and the College Sports Day. She hopes to make them just as successful and engaging as the recent WCC tournament, which was held in collaboration with school students for the first time.

“The key highlight was the engaging games and the head-to-head moments in volleyball and throwball,” she shares. “But more than that, it was great to see how well school students participated and enjoyed the event.”

What’s more exciting is how the Senate is planning to introduce new games and tournaments this year. One of the suggestions that came out of a brainstorming session with first-year students was Archery.

“We’ve received some great inputs from the freshers, and we’re now working on a training and implementation plan,” Sanga Mithraa says. “Once everything is ready, we’ll roll out the final list.”

🏡 Hostel Life: What’s being Planned..

Clarise, the Chairperson for Residence, says the focus this year is on making hostel life more inclusive and building a stronger “hostel family” culture. “We want the hostel to feel like a space where everyone feels supported and heard,” she shares.

To make things zestier, a movie night is in the works, along with a cultural evening where residents can showcase their talents.

Another major initiative is a mental health and hygiene workshop, aimed at helping students cope with the unique challenges of hostel life. The sessions will cover topics like stress management, peer support, mindfulness, and self-care, along with practical tips on hygiene in shared spaces, food and water safety, and menstrual and reproductive health.
