College is more than just classrooms and textbooks. It’s where values are nurtured and leaders are born. At WCC, the Extension Activity Clubs offer students the chance to step beyond academics and make a difference. From serving communities to raising awareness on vital issues, these clubs are the heartbeat of campus life.
Young Indian Club (YI) - “WE CAN, WE WILL”: The YI club promotes leadership, creativity and a spirit of service among students. The club functions through several verticals - Health, Accessibility, Climate change, Sports, Entrepreneurship, Learning and Innovation, Disability, Road Safety and Project MASOOM (women and child safety). Each vertical is led by a dedicated office bearer who coordinates a range of activities both on and off campus.
On campus, the YI club actively supports college events by arranging volunteers for Food Fair, Health screening, Mt. Holyoke Fest and Festeve. One of its key annual initiatives is raising awareness about drug abuse among the students. The club also arranges resource sessions, awareness workshops, and creative contests like poster making and chart making. Digital outreach is also strong with online quizzes hosted on Kahoot platforms to mark occasions such as Independence day, Road safety week and many more.
The club also organises visits to orphanages and care homes. Every year the Young Indian club of WCC collaborates with Nirnayam, an NGO, to educate less privileged girls. The club initiates these opportunities for members to connect meaningfully with the wider community.

YI club’s collaboration with Yuva extends beyond campus through events like Walk along, Chennai’s Got Talent, Safer Chennai, Azhagana Chennai and YI Olympics. The Walk along 2.0 “Together for a better tomorrow” was conducted in partnership with CREDAI Chennai on August 11, 2024, at Namma Chennai Park, Adyar. The event brought together students and individuals for a day of interaction, games and celebration.
“It was a great experience interacting with individuals with special needs. I love how they enjoyed the moment with such enthusiasm." - Elizabeth Peter, III B A English.
YI club continues to inspire and empower students to be thoughtful leaders and compassionate citizens of society.

Rotaract Club - “Redefining change”: Founded in 1995, Rotaract Club of WCC, is a student-led social engagement that has been active for three decades. As of 2025, the club proudly celebrates its 31st edition in WCC, with a strong team of 43 office bearers, and is affiliated to Rotary International District 3234 and its parent club Madras Metro.
The club is best known for its two signature projects:
Tangled- Hair donation campaign supporting cancer patients, in partnership with Cherian Foundation. This initiative was launched in 2009.
Stree Suraksha- a project dedicated to women’s safety and empowerment.
Rotaract club organizes an array of activities including film screening, sessions by expert speakers and awareness campaigns on drug awareness, organ donation, cancer and many more. The club conducts donation drives for essentials like clothes and stationery to support underprivileged communities.

Rotaract members recently participated in a Walkathon conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu aimed at promoting cybercrime awareness at Kalignar Arangam, where they introduced a new helpline number 1930.
“I am happy to be a part of this Walkathon to create awareness about cybercrime, which is a much needed issue to be addressed among students.”- Jenifa T, III Bsc Chemistry.
The Rotaract club of WCC continues to motivate students to take action and lead with heart.

Eco club - “To give each their space”: Founded in 1992 in Women’s Christian College with a vision to build an eco-conscious community. Since 2003, the club has also functioned as an integral part of WCC’s extension activity programme, encouraging students to serve with sustainability in mind.
The club’s mission revolves around creating a green campus and society with activities centered on community gardening, awareness programmes and “wealth out of waste” initiatives. Members actively participate in planting drives across the campus, transforming the college into a greener environment.

Every year, the Eco club organizes events to mark key environmental dates such as World Environment Day, Whale Day, Cheetah Day and more. The key projects include Marina Beach cleanup that involves the student body to take initiatives to remove the waste from the shoreline. The club also addresses current environmental issues through debates such as the recent session on the Wayanad Flood.
The Eco Club remains the green heart beating at the centre of WCC’s campus.

NSS (National Service Scheme) - “Not me, but you”: The National Service Scheme at WCC promotes community service through ten active clubs namely Red Ribbon, Youth Red Cross, Youth Red Gaitonde, TANSAC, Abstinence, Helping Hands, Helping the Blind, Shelter Home (for refugees), Pink Warriors (breast cancer), and Little Sisters of the Poor (helping poor). NSS, under the Tamilnadu Government initiates impactful events like blood donation drives, DKMS stem cell registration and SLAS – State Level Achievement Survey. Their Annual event Exultus brings together all other extension clubs in a vibrant inter-club competition.

Members also take part in beach cleaning and awareness campaigns on National and International Days. They visit special schools as scribes for examinations. A highlight of NSS is the National Camp for one week for rural outreach open to all second years who have completed 50 hours of service. Participants receive certification at the college level for completing 170 hours and University certification for completing 240 hours of service.
“My experience with the National Service Scheme helped me uncover my leadership abilities through selfless service, effective coordination, and event organisation, leaving me with lessons and memories that will last a lifetime”. - Durga Devi V P III Bsc Mathematics, Assistant coordinator, NSS club ’24-25.

The NSS uniform, a simple white outfit, symbolises peace, purity and spirit of selfless service. Each NSS volunteer wears it with pride, reflecting her commitment towards social welfare.
NCC (National Cadet Corps): National Cadet Corps was introduced at WCC in June 2007 initially with the army wing. Over the years the programme has expanded to include all three wings: Army, Navy and Air. In addition to rigorous training, drills, camps and competitions, NCC celebrates Honour Day annually to present awards to cadets for their excellence. WCC’s NCC participates in International Yoga Day, Kargil Vijay Diwas and Operation Safed Saagar. NCC also takes part in Independence Day celebrations and International Girl Children Rights Day. They also conduct fun activities for special children and awareness talks on subjects like cancer and cybercrimes. NCC cadets also actively participate in parades, showcasing a strong sense of national pride.

Institutional training

“NCC has given me a lot of things, yet the best part of it all are my batchmates. Comrades who have been there for me and seen that raw, vulnerable version of me: my blood, sweat and tears. Every grain of sand in WCC ground has touched our faces. Yet, together, even though we get roasted like wasps in a seething cauldron, under the sweltering sun, when our seniors ask us, ‘How's the josh?’, we bellow ‘High, senior!’ It's like having a toxic lover, someone who drains you physically and mentally yet you cannot help falling head over heels in love with them. That's what NCC is to me. Because yeh dil maange more!”- CPL Sanjana Sunilkumar III B A English.
Through every initiative, event, and act of service, the Extension Activity Clubs at WCC continue to shape students into compassionate leaders and responsible citizens. Rooted in purpose and driven by passion, these clubs remind us that true growth happens not just within us but all around us.
