July 2025: From heartwarming blushes and giggles, to nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat suspense, Director Mr. Regin Rose has elicited a variety of reactions from the audience of the annual College Play over the past three years. With his first play, The Fiddler on the Roof in 2022, an instant hit, which is still fondly remembered, began his tryst as Director of WCC’s College Plays. This was followed by The Threepenny Opera, a play by Bertolt Brecht and The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol in the years 2023 and 2024, respectively. He is currently working with the students of WCC on this year’s production, The Sound of Music. Mr. Regin Rose is a man of meticulous skill and natural talent. Although he is better known in the industry as an actor, he has also been a director in his league, notably at Women’s Christian College. He is known for his kind and gentle demeanor, and his patience when training amateur students. “He knows how to deal with students, and he welcomes all students. He completely trusts the process and the actors with the scenes. If he believes that it will come out well, it will come out well,” said one of the students who has worked with him for the past two years, and this year too.
When asked which play he enjoyed producing the most in WCC, Mr. Rose picked Fiddler on the Roof almost instantly. “It was something I had been wanting to do for a long time, and WCC gave me the space and the resources to do it,” he said. He went on to say that the college provided him with enough time to work on all the aspects of the play, from the theme and adaptation styles to working with each actor and character separately. He also says that it is very easy to work with the students of Women’s Christian College since most of them already have some exposure to acting, unlike students outside. He calls the students “experienced” and “well-read” because of which his work is simpler. “Exercises like learning the background and significance of the play, and understanding themes, all of which may take months with actors outside, takes only one to two weeks with students here,” says Mr. Regin Rose.
In conclusion, Mr. Regin Rose is a director who works seamlessly with WCC because of mutual respect and a healthy collaborative spirit. He believes in sincerity and hard work, no matter what role one plays, and this is the attitude that WCC also aims to instill in her students.
