The Information Resource Centre (IRC) of WCC organised the third annual book fair of 2025 on campus. The book fair was held from 4th to 6th August, between 9:30 am and 5 pm at the Assembly Hall in Science Block.

The inauguration was held on 4th August, with the Principal, Dr. Lilian I Jasper, as the Chief Guest. The Librarian of Shift I, Dr. Lisa Sheba Rani J, the Student Senate, students and faculty members attended the inauguration ceremony.

The book fair was held in collaboration with various publishers, offering discounts of 10-15% on all books. A large number of students and faculty members visited the book fair. The footfall on the first day alone surmounted 800, according to the Librarian. The fair featured books from different genres including fiction, non-fiction, academic texts, self-help, and competitive exam guides. Young Adult fiction and trending BookTok books, which are popular among students, were also available and grabbed attention. “I had a great time at this year’s book fair at WCC. All the sellers were offering huge discounts and there was a great range of books on sale, from bestsellers to classics,” said a second year BA English student, reflecting the enthusiasm among the students.

The entry and exit of students was recorded to assess the footfall and the time spent at the fair. Feedback was collected from students through written chits to identify areas for improvement and possible changes. Modifications were made based on feedback from students during the book fairs of the past two years, such as adding their preferred collections and extending the fair from two to three days, according to the Librarian.

“The main aim of the book fair is not to make them (students) buy the books, but to make them see and experience books. Some read the books there, some are motivated to buy later, but the main aim is to connect them with books,” said the Librarian, highlighting the importance and purpose of the book fair. She added that some teachers even brought their students to the fair during their class hours to motivate them to read and explore new books.

Owing to the positive response from students since it began in 2023, this is the third annual book fair. The librarian stated that it will continue to be held every year, around Independence Day. One can expect a bigger fair each year, all thanks to the enthusiasm shown by the staff and the students.
